Baby Security Blanket May Be The Key

A baby security blanket can be a life-saver for a baby, who has the tendency to be insecure. Most often, the type of blanket a baby will be drawn to is one with silk on the edges - one that is soft and fluffy or one that is of a heavier weight that is soft. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to why a baby needs security for different reasons. They tend to be born with this need. The baby may have a stronger sucking need for security, thus will be drawn to its thumb or finger. A pacifier may be used to avoid the thumb or finger.

A baby security blanket is something that is less noticeable than a thumb or finger in its mouth. The only problem with a security blanket is that when it needs washing and drying it may be a fight to get it from the baby making it seem like a very traumatic event. There is a pretty simple fix to this. When you find that your baby is drawn to a particular blanket for its security, purchase one exactly like it. Don’t think you can just toss this twin blanket at the baby six months later and s/he be fooled by it. In order for this to work, you need to alternate between the two identical blankets right from the beginning. One may never know how a little one can tell the difference, but they can when they have attached themselves to that particular one. Thus, there is the need to fool them right from the very beginning.

When and if you have a baby that has that security blanket need, try to get baby blankets that are very similar to the texture of its security blanket. There is something special about that blanket that makes the baby be drawn to it. Whether it is the fuzzy animal attached to it or the silk that is on it, you can still have a variety of colors to choose from that will fit your need for decorating the nursery - not to mention the size of the blanket that will work for the bassinet and then in the crib.

You may not be able to force the baby to choose the blanket you want it to have as a security blanket, but you can find an identical one or extremely close to it to begin switching the two back and forth right from the start. If they aren’t of the same color, but are of the same texture, you may get very lucky if you start the switching of the two right away before baby knows they are of different color and will attach itself to both blankets for security.
