Richmond BC has a high number of cedar roofs. A Home owner who needs to change has several option, things to know when hiring a Richmond Roofing contractor
In Richmond BC, it is common to see cedar roofs everywhere. In fact this is what you have probably been noticing for the last 20 to 30 years if you live anywhere away from the edges of the city. Now it is time to change the roofs that cover the city and you are left with two options.
One is to get cedar again. This is not the most common choice for most people but some do get cedar again. Cedar is great for new construction, it is easy on the eye and gives the home some appeal. But when reproofing and you get a cedar quote you will find that it is thirty percent more in cost then an asphalt roof. Cedar breaths well so you don’t really have to worry about ventilation.
As you will notice though, Richmond residents tend to go with laminate fibreglass shingles when getting a new roof on their home. What is very important when you choose this option is that a roofer must know building rules and the required ventilation needed for your home. An asphalt roof might seem better cost wise but if under ventilated you could spend more on energy consumption and definitely not living up to your warranty. An under ventilated roof is not covered by any warranty in North America. So it is up to the Roofing contractor to ventilate according to the building code.
In Richmond BC you have a variety of roofers working on the homes in your community. Most are regular roofers who drive around in trucks. There must be a market for these guys because I see them on a daily basis. Now I definitely do not want to seem like someone who would lecture a home owner but who would hire a person without a business licence or liability insurance and let them climb all over your house. You don’t even know if you can call them again in a year if the roof starts to leak again.
