Roofing Contractor Vancouver
In a roof estimate, you have several words that might not be a part of your vocabulary. If I come across a word that is not everyday English I will explain but bear with me. I say these words everyday and sometimes assume that everyone else knows these words too!
The roofer will take off the old roof or rooves and inspect the deck for rot or extruding nails. If a deck is needed this should be stated next. The underlay comes after this and as a requirement in Vancouver. A Vancouver roofing contractor must apply at least a 30 pounds of felt along the eaves and then a paper or fabric felt on the rest of the deck. Some products out there insist on a fabric or inorganic underlay for the shingle. If your roof is a low slope peel and stick, an ice & water shield is needed for the eaves and valleys.
A starter shingle is then applied along the eaves and up the gables. This gives extra overhang and stops the ice from creeping under your roof. The roof is then shingled and capped with new flashing (Metal) to the plumbing stacks and B Vent. New roof vents should equal or exceed the amount you have right now. The option of a ridge vent is available to you if you have enough ridge.
This is the basic work a roofer should do on your home. Any less and you are looking for trouble. Please remember that plywood, gable flashing step, wall flashing, ridge vent and some of the other protrusions you may have on your roof do not apply to all homes as every home is designed differently.
